The Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (MedINA) is a Greek non-profit organization. Its mission is to contribute to a harmonious relationship between Humans and Nature, particularly in the Mediterranean Region, through research, action and awareness.
They developed the INCREATE Approach, that aims to help communities designing effective nature conservation programs by incorporating culture-related issues.
Kythira was elected as pilot site for the INCREATE project. Based on the findings of a cultural and an environmental assessment a strategy was formed: ‘strengthening the tourist potential of the island’ through showcasing the interconnections of nature and culture.
This project fits perfectly in an alternative environmental masterplan for the island.
