A complaint was lodged with the European Commission on the systematic and blatant violation of EU law by the Hellenic Republic on 14 February 2020 by the Hellenic Ornithological Society, Callisto and the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

The reason that led to this complaint is the systematic licensing and installation of industrial scale Wind Power Plants within protected Greek Natura 2000 areas.

For Kythira especially interesting in this complaint is the Mani peninsula, that is like Kythira/Antkythira, one of the 4 most important stopovers for migratory birds in Greece (see Map of important bird areas).
